Thunder Secure New Venue for 2010
by admin on Apr.13, 2010, under Articles, News, Press Release
American Football, or “Gridiron” as it is sometimes called, returns to Horsham this year for the first time in over 20 years since the days of the now defunct Horsham Predators.
The Sussex Thunder, 2008 National Division 1 Champions, will compete in the top flight of British American Football at their new home of Broadbridge Heath Stadium in Horsham. The club will make the short move from their current home in Crawley in time for the start of the 2010 British American Football Association Community League (BAFACL) Premiership season in early May.
At the end of the 2009 season, the Thunder management team made the decision to find a new venue, one which would be suitable to host Premiership football and have the facilities available to provide an enjoyable game day experience for all.
After an extensive search of venues across the county, negotiations were opened with Broadbridge Heath’s management and an agreement was reached for the club to play its home games in 2010 and beyond.

Club Chairman Tony Miller said, “The move to Broadbridge Heath is a fantastic move for the club. We have been searching for a venue like this for a while, but have been unable to find somewhere with the right facilities. When we approached DC Leisure, who run the stadium, they where more than helpful. They were very keen to do all they could to make the move affordable to us and provide all the assistance they could during the move.”
Club Vice-Chairman and GB Lions Quarterback Eber Kington added, “Moving to the stadium will give us a base to provide a full game game-day experience for our supporters. It ticks all the right boxes and will hopefully give us the chance to promote both the team and football in general and also attract more fans and sponsors to the game”.
Claire Fleming, Operations Manager for DC Leisure at the stadium said, “When the Thunder first contacted us about using the stadium for American Football, we floated the idea amongst the staff here and they were really upbeat and enthusiastic about it, so we invited Tony & Eber to come along for a chat. The more we spoke, the more we wanted them to come here. I think this will be a great arrangement for both us and the club and we look forward to forming a long-term partnership between us. Personally I can’t wait for the season to start.”
The club are keen to foster links with the local community in and around Horsham. Anyone who would like more information or to become involved with the club either playing, becoming a member of the game-day staff or sponsoring the team should contact the Team Manager Tony Miller on 07793 145709 or chairman@sussexthunder.com.
The clubs first game at their new home will be on Sunday June 6th, when the visitors will be local rivals the Farnham Knights.

Pre Season Scrimmages
by admin on Apr.02, 2010, under Events, News
Sussex Thunder are proud to be hosting TWO pre season scrimmages this year. Scimmages are an essential tool for creating game day situations, and an ideal learning tool for players, coaches and spectators alike to guage player performance and team specialistation.
The First Scrimmage is to be held at Breezhurst Pavillion, Bewbush, this will be against the Colchester Gladiators on the 11th of April. the Second will be held as part of the second Preseason camp, against the East Kent Mavericks on the 18th of April.
Sussex Thunder appreciate the time taken for these two well diciplined teams to travel down to Sussex, and look forward to two productive sessions.
